![]() ![]() It’s got that classic Dreadbox sound, and the built in echo, which sounds cool and vintage-y, can get downright dirty and lose itself pretty easily, though it’s not untamable. It was surprising how much fun I had with just this module and my Arturia Keystep, patching it to itself, utilizing both LFO shapes, and messing around with the envelope generator. It took me a minute to figure this out, but once I patched in the gate signal I was up and running. Since the VCA is not normalled to the envelope, but to the gate input, you will need to give it a gate signal to get some sound to your ears. But before I could do so, I had to figure out one of its quirks. I used the Lil’ Erebus as a Eurorack module as opposed to a desktop, and once I cleared out some space in my rack and got it settled into its new home, I was ready to make some noise. If the prospect of doing so without a safety net seems daunting, there are a few forums/websites around to give you some tips, a pep talk, or just to talk you off a proverbial ledge if need be. It’s recommended by Dreadbox that if you go the DIY route, to study their construction manual before purchase to make sure you’re up to the task of building it, as they offer no support. The demo unit I received was pre-built, but a look under the hood to see what DIY’ers would be up against revealed a lot of components in that 42HP space. I think one more standoff in the right location, solidifying the faceplate to the PCB, could stop the flexing altogether. The jacks and pots are all PCB mounted and, though not enough to concern me, when patching you can see the circuit board flex ever so slightly. The sturdy multi-green metal faceplate is attractive, and the knobs and sliders feel sturdy enough, if not bulletproof. You can polychain with up to 2 Lil' Erebus, so you can have a little crew of Lil’ Erebi at your disposal, and there’s a DIP switch on the back of the PCB that selects between using the Lil’ Erebus as a paraphonic or monophonic device and also handles MIDI channel selection.Īs for the build quality, you couldn’t ask for much more for the price. There is also a PT2399-based echo with feedback control and CV in to modulate the echo time, a voltage controlled LFO with both a triangle and square wave output, 16 patch points, 13 sliders, 4 knobs, and a built in MIDI to CV converter. Those are routed to a 2-Pole low-pass filter, which features a CV input for cutoff modulation, and are then hardwired to the internal ADS envelope generator, which has its own output for utilization elsewhere. The Lil' Erebus sports 2 oscillators: a saw wave and a pulse wave, each with individual level and tune controls that you can choose to pitch either separately or simultaneously. The desktop version comes with a power supply board and can be housed in its cardboard container, which is way nicer than it sounds, and helps keep the cost down. Unlike the big Erebus, the Lil' Erebus can be used as a Eurorack module as well as a standalone desktop synth, and comes both pre-built and as a DIY kit. ![]() The Lil' Erebus, from Greek manufacturer Dreadbox, is an all analog, paraphonic synth, and a direct descendant to their beloved Erebus desktop synth, which had 3 iterations and is now discontinued. ![]() ![]() ![]() But it has been experimenting with going direct. ![]() Google still needs ISPs and Telcos for the last mile, to deliver its various services and products, to the end user/consumer. Because of bartering through peering agreements, its only cost is in maintaining its own networks and backbones. It's difficult to believe, but your bandwidth bill to watch a YouTube video is more than Google's. These peering arrangements mean that Google's bandwidth bill for all that YouTube video is zero. This means that if they have the capacity, they will carry extra traffic for each other. Large Telcos and ISPs have peering arrangements with each other. If a company wants to compete with Google on a large scale, the costs of shuttling data packets around, whether they be Twitter packets or video packets, starts becoming very important at these large scales. ![]() Google’s infrastructure supports, well, only Google.īased on data from 110 ISPs collected in the summer of 2009, Google was responsible for as much as 10% of all Internet traffic. the “tier1s”), Google’s backbone does not deliver traffic on behalf of millions of subscribers nor thousands of regional networks and large enterprises. Only two other providers (both of whom carry significant volumes of Google transit) contribute more inter-domain traffic. If Google were an ISP, it would be the fastest growing and third largest global carrier. It's a rhetorical question because Arbor knows, it sells network control and monitoring hardware used by the largest ISPs and corporations. ![]() ![]() ![]()
![]() We started running, but quickly fell into a group of walkers. This is when I realized I needed to put my phone away until my hands were clean again. By 9:35, we got into our spots and tried our best to catch the color bombs that were being thrown into the crowd. ![]() Um, sure!īy the time we registered for the race, the only wave time left was a 9:40 a.m. start. Lucky for us, State Farm was handing them out to anyone who wanted to enter a raffle to win $500. It wasn’t super sunny out, but we wanted to wear them to help block some of the color from getting into our eyes as we ran through the color stations. If not, we were just going to risk placing them in a bush somewhere, but they were really nice about it. I love them for that!īefore the race, Nichole and I walked over to a booth and kindly asked them if they would mind keeping our t-shirts under their table. They had plenty leftover from their purchase and took it upon themselves to make sure we started with a fair amount of color. There was a retail tent set-up to purchase accessories, too.Īs we walked around to check everything out, we found a couple of girls who were nice enough to bomb us. There were tons of things to do leading up to the start of the race, and the biggest activity included purchasing color bombs to play and attack your friends with. The one thing neither of us remembered to bring with us was cash. ![]() I brought two plastic zip bags for each of us to carry, so we could carry our phones and car keys with us. We both wore the socks and were determined to find somewhere else to stash our t-shirts while we raced. We didn’t waste any time putting on our numbers. We came dressed in white so that we could absorb all the colors we were about to get into and set out with a goal to get colored! Our bags came with a complimentary race shirt, our numbers, safety pins, temporary tattoos (we didn’t have time to apply) and high socks. ![]() This race didn’t have lockers or a bag check, so it was up to us to figure out a place to stash them! The only drawback I’ve experienced with waiting until the race day to pick up my packet is having to carry the bag around. If you aren’t able to get your packet before race day, don’t stress. On these types of fun runs, you can usually grab it the morning of the event and sometimes even register right there! Every race and event is different though, so I wouldn’t recommend counting on that. Our first mission once we arrived Saturday morning was to walk over to the packet pick-up tent and claim our numbers. I pre-registered online, but I wasn’t able to drive across town and pick up our race packets ahead of time. I had run several races before, and even so, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect when we showed up about forty minutes before our wave time. I owe a big thank you to Color Me Rad for inviting and comping me and a guest to participate in the race! The minute I saw the invite for the 5K, I took FitFluential up on the opportunity to represent my city and run the color run. So, I ran my first color run last weekend!Ĭompleting a color run has been something on my Fitness Bucket List for years, and I’m so glad I finally got the chance to get painted and run through the streets of Detroit like a colorful madwoman with my friend Nichole. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Single-player only, with no cross-hairs or any resource management elements.īy completing all 10 optional missions you receive a Hostile Environment Suit and the MK-II Overclocked Frame Set. How I Tested The KitchenAid Artisan Mini 3.5-Quart Tilt-Head Stand Mixer That said, the Artisan Mini can’t accommodate the same amount of food as the other models, making this mixer ideal for newer or occasional bakers who are drawn to smaller, straightforward recipes over large, ambitious baking projects. Thanks to its bowl-lift style, the Artisan Mini is intuitive to use at 18 pounds, this space-saving model is both easy to move and store. But still, this is one mighty mixer that can tackle a wide variety of mixtures, from delicate cake batter to stiff pizza dough. The Artisan Mini is the brand’s smallest stand mixer, and because it’s petite, it doesn’t boast the same capacity nor motor power as larger models. How Does The KitchenAid Artisan Mini 3.5-Quart Stand Mixer Compare? Thanks to the Artisan Mini’s silicone-edged flex beater, which I found incredibly effective, I had to do this relatively easy but annoying task far less frequently. When using a normal beater, I typically have to stop the mixer every 10 to 20 seconds to scrape down the bowl with a spatula. The Artisan Mini also comes with a special beater: It features a flexible silicone edge on one of its sides, which helps catch ingredients on the sides of the bowl. ![]() Additionally, the tilt-head functionality makes it easy to stop and scrape down the sides of the bowl, switch out accessories and add more ingredients as needed. Even when the mixer was running on the highest speeds and kneading dense bread dough, the bowl didn’t budge. As a tilt-head style mixer, the Artisan Mini’s metal bowl locks into the base of the mixer, and I found the locking mechanism to be sturdy and secure. A Cinch To UseĬhief among the reasons the Artisan Mini is so great for newer bakers: It couldn’t be easier to use. That said, considering how compact and beautiful this model is (it comes in 10 elegant colors), the Artisan Mini could easily earn a permanent spot on your kitchen countertop. Weighing in at 18 pounds, the Artisan Mini is also lighter than its bigger siblings, making this model easier to move to and from your pantry and overhead cabinets. When I unlocked the mixing bowl and tilted the machine’s head backward, the entire mixer-yes, in that awkward position-fit easily inside my kitchen cabinets. Laura Denby The Perfect Size For Small KitchensĬomparable in size to an espresso machine, the Artisan Mini is 20% smaller than full-size KitchenAid tilt-head mixers, making this model ideal for those who aren’t willing or able to dedicate so much counter or cabinet space to a larger mixer. Using the paddle attachment, the machine gently folded all the ingredients together, leaving no pools of sugar or egg yolk at the bottom of the mixer.Īs you can see, the Artisan Mini's mixing bowl was pretty much at capacity with a large batch of. The traditional sponge cake, too, was a breeze for the mixer. Though I did notice a bit of bouncing when mixing the super-stiff dough, the Artisan Mini efficiently kneaded it into a smooth ball. I was similarly impressed by the Artisan Mini’s handling of pizza dough. The baked cookies were perfect, featuring evenly dispersed chocolate chips, walnuts, raisins, oats and coconut. While the mixing bowl was full to the brim when I made a large batch of loaded kitchen sink cookie dough (enough to yield 48 cookies), the paddle attachment thoroughly incorporated all the ingredients, leaving behind no dry spots or clumps of ingredients. In my testing, the Artisan Mini proved more than capable of mixing all my various recipes, resulting in baked goods that were airy and light-not overmixed or dense. Forbes Staff KitchenAid Artisan Mini 3.5-Quart Tilt-Head Stand Mixer Features Ideal For Single Batches (And Even Smaller)ĭon’t let the Artisan Mini’s 3.5-quart capacity fool you: Despite the smaller bowl size, it’s big enough to make full batches of cookies, breads and cakes. ![]() ![]() ![]() It's also possible to use option files (or configuration files) to set these options.
